Scott Johnson
PCA Head Coach / Interim Executive Director

Coach Johnson designs and oversees the training structure for the senior team. Senior swimmers under Scott's guidance have achieved divisional, state, speedo sectionals, futures and junior national level time standards. Coach Johnson's philosophy is based on achieving maximum performance at peak competition periods. Through the training plan, Scott desires to push athletes to grow in personal confidence and take ownership of their workouts in order to achieve goals. 

Previously, Coach Johnson served as a coach for Avon Community Swim Team from 2005-2010, including being Head Age Group Coach from 2008-2009. During his career at ACST, coach Johnson produced individual state champions and led the age group team to four consecutive Top 10 finishes in the state meet. 

Coach Johnson also serves as Head Coach for Plainfield High School swimming and diving, a position he has held since 2016-17 season.

Scott was a multiple-event state finalist in high school and was a member of two school record relay teams. Scott swam collegiately at the University of Louisville as well as IUPUI. 

He resides in Plainfield with his wife Amanda and daughters, Lainey and Lillian.

Chris Tice
Age Group Coach - Juniors Group

Coach Chris joined the PCA staff in the early spring of 2018. Chris graduated from Plainfield High School in 2013 where he swam for all four years of his high school career. During this time and prior to entering high school Chris swam for the Avon Community Swim Team where he participated in individual and team events at the State and Zone level. Chris was a high school state qualifier his freshman and junior year of high school participating as the butterfly leg of the medley relay and freestyle lead of the 400 free relay. Chris’ most notable swims were the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly where he was a top finisher at County, Conference, and Sectional swim meets. Chris also jointly held the Plainfield High School medley relay record from 2012 to 2017.

At ACST, Coach Tice was a State and Zone qualifier on the age group team and a State qualifier on the senior team all seven years he swam for them. Again, his most notable events being the freestyle and butterfly swims. Chris had multiple individual top finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 200 butterfly for the team and participated on many State Championship relay teams.

Collegiately, Coach Tice studied Global Health at Indiana University Bloomington from 2013 to 2017. Chris graduated from IU in May 2017 and currently works as an operations manager at UPS. He plans to continue his education in the not-too distance future.

Laura Mason

Coach Laura's swimming career started at a young age swimming for her local YMCA team and competing at the zone and national level. Her passion grew and she joined the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins and High School Firelands Falcons where she was an 8 time All-Ohio swimmer placing in both the 500 and 200 freestyle all four years at the Ohio State Championship Meet. In 2006, she was inducted into her high school athletic hall of fame.  From 2006 to 2010, she represented the University of Louisville competing in the 500, 1000, and mile freestyle events and the 400 individual medley.  While competing for the University of Louisville, she was on the dean's list and academic honor roll all four years. She finished her swimming career and began studying occupational therapy at Spalding University. While pursuing her Masters she coached age group for Lakeside Swim Team. In 2014, she graduated with her masters in occupational therapy.  In 2021, she was inducted into the Lorain County swimming and diving hall of fame for her athletic success. In 2024, she was a nominee for the Indiana Business Journal healthcare hero award.

 
She is married to Anthony Mason and together they have two kids: Hayley and Logan. 
 
She enjoys giving back to the sport of swimming  through coaching swimmers in and out of the pool. 

Jenna Lautenschlager Age Group Coach - Swells Group
 

Coach Jenna joined the PCA staff in December 2020.  She is a 2015 graduate of Plainfield High School where she was a 4 year varsity swimmer.  In her time at PHS, Jenna was most known for her 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 400 free relay events where she was a top finisher at County, Conference, and Sectional meets.  In the off season, Jenna was a club swimmer at Hendricks Elite Aquatics Team. 

Coach Jenna continued her athletic career at Purdue University by swimming for the Purdue Swim Club until 2018.  She also served as an assistant coach for the Splash Island Developmental Swim Team for 5 years.  In college, Coach Jenna studied Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Purdue University from 2015-2019.  Jenna graduated with her undergraduate degree from Purdue in May of 2019.  She is continuing her education at Indiana State University where she is getting her masters degree in Speech Pathology.  Currently, she is going through her school and medical practicums in Plainfield.


Jess Helton

Coach Jess joined the PCA staff in August of 2022.  She was an Indiana Age Group State Champion and Zone Qualifier as a club swimmer.  In High School she was a 4 year varsity letter winner, competing in sectional finals and the High School State Meet.  Collegiately she had success swimming all 4 years for IUPUI and following graduation was the assistant coach for IUPUI for 2 seasons before leaving to raise her family.  Coach Jess has continued to be involved in the sport as an instructor of private stroke technique lessons and has had the opportunity to work with a number of swimmers in all levels of their swimming careers.

Coach Jess has had the opportunity to see the growth and success of the team over the past several years and is excited to be apart of this club and coaching staff.  Jess lives in Plainfield with her three PCA swimmers Hudson, Sawyer and Atticus.
 

Brian Woodard

Coach Woodard is in his 27th year teaching at Plainfield High School. He received his BS in Secondary Education/Biology from the University of Evansville where he was a 4-year letterman in football. Coach Woodard also holds a M.Ed degree from the Olivet Nazarene University. While at Plainfield he coached four different sports and has worked extensively in the strength & conditioning program. In addition to working with PCA, he is also an assistant football coach at DePauw University. Brian is married to Jennifer and is a father to Blake and Allison. 


Melissa DeCamp

Coach Melissa, or better known as Coach 'Mel' joined the PCA staff in April of 2024. She was a swimmer at Plainfield High School from 2007-2010. In her career at PHS, Melissa was an all-conference and all-county performer all four years. Coach Mel had the opportunity to live on the west coast, specifically in Seattle and San Diego for several years where she discovered the benefits of strength training. Mel has competed in multiple strength based competitions in which she placed on the podium while out west and here locally. Most recently, Melissa has focused on coaching her son's youth sports teams to positively impact the young people of the community while refining her coaching ability. She never lost her love for the sport of swimming and is excited to learn from an already accomplished team and bring her positive attitude and competitive background to the team as well.

Coach DeCamp lives in Plainfield with her husband, AJ, and son, Henry.

Jennifer Detlefsen Lessons Head Coach

Coach Detlefsen has been with PCA since its beginning in 2016. Jennifer builds the curriculum for our lesson program and oversees the day-to-day operation of the sessions. Jennifer has built a system that is effective in giving young swimmers a progression of learning from the very basics of water familiarity up through all 4 strokes development. Through the past few years, it has been evident that our swimmers who progress through Jennifer's program have been well-equipped for the club team.
